How Dancers Survive During the COVID-19 Quarantine

As professional dancers and instructors, you can imagine how stir-crazy Bryan and I are feeling during this time of #shelterathome. However, we have come upon a few tips to help us, and you, stay sane during this very crazy time.

TIP #1: Create a Schedule

We can’t emphasize enough how important this is. Of course, this doesn’t mean you have to plan your life and day down to the exact second, but sticking to a routine has definitely helped us to not only stay productive, but it also creates a great sense of accomplishment. That positive energy can go a long way right now, can’t it?

TIP #2: Stay Active & Eat Healthy

This has been especially important for us as we are so used to moving and DANCING at least 8 hours a day, 5 days a week. Every day, we have made it an absolute priority to do SOMETHING active. Whether its going outside to walk our dogs, a 30 minute workout session on youtube, or just doing a few yoga poses, staying active is not only essential for a healthy body, but for a healthy mind as well.

We’ve also been sure to keep our meals nutritious and clean to keep our immune systems strong and healthy. Luckily, I enjoy cooking, but if you don’t, there are some great local restaurants that offer amazing nutritious meals for pick-up, and a lot of them even deliver! You’ll be treating your body well, and also supporting a local business. Win, win!

TIP #3: Finish each day with what you’re thankful for

Bryan and I have found it encouraging at the end of each day to go over what we accomplished that we didn’t have finished when the day began. Did you do something that day that you’re especially proud of? Maybe you finished a home project that you’ve been meaning to do for months, or you cooked an awesome new recipe, or maybe you just put makeup on that day… (for real though, right!?!). Whatever it is, no matter how big or small, celebrate it.

Making a point to remind ourselves of the things we are thankful for: our marriage, our families, our health, a roof over our heads, our Arthur Murray Dance Family… has helped to keep us centered and optimistic when it’s SO EASY to sink into the doldrums.

TIP #4: Remember this won’t last forever

We know it’s hard to look at the big picture at this moment. The days seem to go on forever, and sometimes it’s hard to even remember what day of the week it even is! But we all must remember, that this ISN’T going to last forever. We WILL all get through this. And, when this is all over, Arthur Murray Waco will be waiting for you, with bells on, for all of you to celebrate freedom, community, joy and all of us being better versions of ourselves on the other side of this.

See you all soon. 🙂
